Chesters Museum

Discover what life would have been like for the Romans here at this brilliant Roman fort and museum. Chesters Roman Fort and Museum is well-preserved, showing the baths and steam rooms, officers’ quarters and amazing collection of Roman artefacts found during the excavation of the Roman wall. The fort opening hours are from 10 till 6, giving you lots of time to explore this astonishing and educational site during a day’s walk, or even if you are going especially for the fort. Hadrian’s Wall has such a rich history and story to tell, if you are walking or cycling along its trail, you simply must spend some time in this wonderful Fort and Museum. Parking is available with over 60 spaces and toilets are available on site with baby changing facilities. The Roman museum has a shop which sells a range of gifts like wines, jams and toys. Over 2000 Roman finds make up the impressive collections on display and this includes world class Roman Altar Stones.

Plenty of fun events are held at Chesters Museum, in the past there has been Gladiatorial re-enactments and archaeology detectives! In our opinion, Chesters Roman Fort and Museum is a Roman Fort well worth visiting, indeed! A great addition to your walk or cycle and just a great day out with the family!
